Beyond Category has amassed a serious following for its compelling power, distinct complexity and seemingly vast evolution in bottle. This Rioja driven beauty provides an experience of pure silk as the deep texture of Tempranillo drapes across your entire palate. Layers of dark fruit, fig, sage, fresh herbs and dark cacao, contribute largely to its obvious electric core of bright, bursting fruit. Graciano and Grenache dazzle and whet all of one's senses, for an insatiably long and unforgettable finish.

Still in barrel, the 2017 Beyond Category is made up of 48% Tempranillo, 26% Graciano, 20% Grenache and 6% Carignan. It's expected to age a bit longer this vintage, for 27 months. This will be blended and bottled in early 2020. Opaque ruby-purple, it explodes from the glass with bold scents of crème de cassis, boysenberry and blueberry jam, molten chocolate, licorice, lilacs, toasted coconut and a faint waft of tapenade and grilled meat. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with flavor but surprisingly light on its feet, with a pixelated frame and seamless freshness, finishing very long, layered and lifted.

A Rioja-like blend of 48% Tempranillo, 26% Graciano, 20% Grenache, and the rest Carignan, the deep purple 2017 Beyond Category spent 26 months in 47% new French oak prior to bottling. With lots of cassis fruit as well as notes of ground pepper, spiced meat, graphite, and dried earth, it hits the palate with gorgeous purity of fruit, full-bodied richness, and classic Tempranillo structure and tannins. It still has the fruit and opulence to shine today, but it's going to be better with 2-3 years of bottle age.
