You have to give winemaker Mike Smith credit, the guy makes brilliant wines wherever he goes. This was my first chance tasting this new project and these are both impressive wines. There are only 341 cases of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard, which hails from a historic site Rutherford and was brought up in 85% new French oak. Its dense purple hue is followed by rich notes of crème de cassis, mulled black cherries, tobacco leaf, chocolate, and a hint of cedar. These carry to a full-bodied, incredibly seamless 2018 with no hard edges, flawless balance, and ripe, velvety tannins. It opens up with time in the glass, and while already complex and enjoyable, it's going to evolve for 20-25 years in cold cellars. It's a gorgeous wine.

This is a spicy, earthy and densely rich wine from the famous site, tingling in acidity and broad strokes of leather, nutmeg and blackberry. Full bodied and made to age, it shows graceful structure in the works, with well-mannered tannin and toasted oak tones. Enjoy best from 2028-2033.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Vineyard George III is the first wine I have tasted from Perchance, and it is impressive. Rich and luscious to the core, the Georges III is bursting at the seams with intensity. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, spice and licorice are front and center. This flamboyant Cabernet delivers the goods.

Rich in feel, with lush waves of warm cassis, plum reduction and boysenberry preserve liberally lined with singed alder and dark tobacco. Has a touch of loam through the finish giving this a pretty solid bass line, with a late echo of sweet bay leaf adding range. Best from 2022 through 2032. 400 cases made.
