The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle (Duc de Magenta) is showing nicely from bottle, unwinding in the glass with notes of pear, crisp yellow orchard fruit, fresh apricot, pastry cream and toasted macadamia nut. This is medium to full-bodied, tangy and tightly wound, with racy acids and a phenolic finish. It should develop nicely in the cellar and once again represents one of the longer-haul propositions in the range.

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru was showing more reduction on the nose when I tasted it from barrel, compared directly against the regular Morgeot from Jadot. The palate is well balanced and conveys a fine sense of energy. Quite effervescent in the first half, but it takes its eye off the ball in the second and does not deliver the tension and nervosité that I was hoping for. Maybe there will be some melioration once the blend is completed and the wine is in bottle.
