Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper is youthfully mute, offering glimpses at fresh blueberries, red and black plums and mulberries with hints of underbrush, loam, cedar and cardamom plus a touch of dark chocolate. The palate is wonderfully intense and elegant, revealing fresh berry and earth layers that are superbly supported by very ripe, fine tannins and the right amount of freshness, finishing long with mineral nuances.

Cut from the same cloth, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hooper is marginally more open and complex, and offers sensational notes of incense, crème de cassis, dried flowers, vanilla and exotic spice. Sweetly fruited, supple and incredibly sexy, with no hard edges and full-bodied richness, it's already impossible to resist, yet is going to be even better in 3-4 years and cruise for two decades.

Juicy baked plum, raisin cake and anise mark the extended entry of this bold big-boned red from the great Oakville site. Softly integrated in tannin and oak, it shows deft layers of cassis, cedar and cigar box, a persistence of woody herbaceousness intriguing and contributing ongoing complexity. Best 2025-2035.

Firm and appropriately tannic, this strikes a nice balance between youthful, lush dark berry and the firming grace of fine grain tannins. Not quite there yet, but worth considering. Drink now through 2026. 550 cases made.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard is, unfortunately, short, compact and lacking depth, much less any of the signatures that are so characteristic of this site. The hot, alcoholic, sweet finish is not especially enjoyable. What is the point?
