Black-skinned berry, violet, new leather and tobacco aromas are front and center. Reflecting the nose, the smooth, approachable palate doles out juicy Marasca cherry, ripe plum, nutmeg and a hint of licorice framed in polished, pliant tannins. Drink through 2024.

The 2017 Chianti Classico is laced with hints of sweet tobacco, crushed flowers, red berries and pine. Medium in body and gracious, with lovely perfume, the 2017 is an excellent introduction to the Volpaia wines. As always, the Chianti Classico here has a nervousness to it that is typical of these high altitude vineyards, even in 2017.

The 2017 Chianti Classico offers a pretty succession of forest fruit aromas, cassis and dried raspberry with spice, tar and light shades of smoke on the close. This is an easy, light to medium-weight wine to pair with fried chicken wings. The blend is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot.
