Close to one-third each of Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Syrah (it's slightly Mourvèdre-heavy), the deeper ruby/plum color of the 2017 Sagacious is followed by a meaty, savory red with lots of spiced meat, dried herbs, pepper, violets, and both red and blue fruits. Rich, full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, with plenty of underlying structure, drink it any time over the coming 8-10 years.

Made up of 38% Mourvèdre, 33% Grenache and 29% Syrah aged 19 months in 40% new oak, the 2017 Sagacious has a medium to deep ruby-purple color and is youthfully mute to begin. With time in the glass, the nose blossoms to marionberries, boysenberries and cranberry preserves with accents of rhubarb, blood orange, autumn leaves, saline, cinnamon stick and amaro. Medium-bodied with dense fruit taking its time to unfurl, it has a grainy frame and juicy freshness with a long, orange- and flower-laced finish. This will benefit from another few years in bottle.
