The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beauty. Largely Cabernet Sauvignon with tiny quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and hailing from four sectors of Napa Valley (Pritchard Hill, St. Helena, Rutherford and Oakville), the wine offers a Pauillac-like note of unsmoked cigar tobacco intermixed with crème de cassis, Christmas fruitcake, tobacco leaf, licorice, and red and blackcurrants galore. The great fruit on the attack follows through to the mid-palate, which is opulent and full-bodied with sweet, luscious tannins. The wine was aged 22 months in 70% new French oak. This is a hedonistic but complex beauty to drink over the next 15-20 years.

Young and rich, supple and layered, with a cloak of spicy cedar and dill-laced oak but also a wonderful core of supple dark berry, plum and spice flavors. Ends as it starts, with a kiss of oak. Drink now through 2030.
