Another wine that's showing even better today than on release (which is always a good sign), the 2011 Igp Côtes Catalanes Secret de Schistes comes from higher elevation, brown schist soils and was raised completely in new barrels. Black raspberries, tapenade, game, peppery herbs and spice characteristics all flow to a full-bodied, supple, elegant Syrah that has a great mid-palate and polished tannin. Drink bottles anytime over the coming 4-5 years.

A wine I rated 92 just last year, the 2011 Cotes Catalanes Secret de Schistes has come on like gang busters and has extraordinary notes of kirsch, chocolate, cured meats, wild herbs and olive. Just as good on the palate, with full-bodied richness, a layered, multidimensional texture, sweet tannin and a blockbuster finish, drink this beauty anytime over the coming 7-8 years.
